How To Have More Power At Work

Power. Wanting more of it doesn’t make you a megalomaniac or would-be dictator. Power by another name could also be called influence, and influence in the workplace is a good thing. Influence affords you more opportunity and respect, which gives you more choice and control over your own career and goals. To gain the right kind of power that will help you get ahead, try this advice:
Use your authority actively. No matter what your job is, you have some power to make decisions. Don’t ask for permission over actions that are legitimately your responsibility. However, use tact in the execution of
decisions.
Recognize people. Even if you’re not a manager, you can build your reputation as a leader by thanking people for their assistance, pointing out examples of high
performance to managers, and showing your appreciation for your co-workers’ efforts to help the organization succeed.
Find a specialty. Become an expert at some important function within your organization or department. Once you become the go-to person for solving specific kinds of problems, people will look to you for help and leadership in other areas.
Show initiative. Don’t wait for managers to tell you what to do. Launch a pilot project on your own to help your organization achieve its goals. Make suggestions for developing new products or cutting costs. Let everyone know you’re committed to making a difference.
Expand your networks. The more people you know, the more influence you have. Reach out beyond your usual circle of friends and co-workers by getting active in other departments and in industry groups. Even if your contacts aren’t directly involved in your business, you’ll gain access to ideas and relationships that will benefit you throughout your career.
Learn to speak powerfully. Your ability to communicate is critical. Take courses in speaking, join a speakers' club, and listen to powerful motivational speakers, such as Anthony (Tony) Robbins or Eric Thomas. Learn to express your ideas succinctly.
Become an active listener. Everybody loves someone who listens with their whole being, feeds back what they hear, and then asks to hear more. Become known as someone who is easy to talk to. Withhold your opinions, and be positive in your responses..

Father's Day Gifts

Two Special Ways To  Honor Honor Thy Father
Your father, or perhaps your grandfather, plays a special role in your life. Let him know that. This Father’s Day, skip the necktie and tell your dad or granddad what he really means to you. Some suggestions:
  •  Write a letter thanking him. Tell him what he means to you. Read it in front of him and the whole family. You can frame it and even add photos or other mementos, creating an art piece.
  • Create a thank-you review book. On each page, write a memory of something that you loved doing with him. Example: “Thanks, Dad, for the time you said that my math teacher was wrong and you gave me the right answer. And then told me never to correct the math teacher! Great advice."
Are you ready to buy a house for your Dad in Los Angeles County?  I am ready to help on that.

Do We Need To Have An Email ?

A jobless man applied for the position of office boy at a large company. He perfomed well and was offered the job. The interviewer said, "Now, I just need your email address to send you some documents to sign and verify, and then you can start". The man replied, "I don't have a computer or an email account." "Oh, I am sorry" said the interviewer. "without the email, we can't hire you." The man left feeling frustrated. He had only $10 in his pocket, so he went to the market , bought a large create of tomatoes and began selling them door to door. In two hours, he succeeded in doubling his money. He repeated the operation three times, and made $60. He realized that he could survive by this way, and stated to go earlier and returned later. Thus, his money double or tripled every day. Eventually he had earned enough to buy a cart, then a truck, and then a fleet of delivery vehicles. Five years later the man's company was one of the biggest food retailers in the area. he started to plan his family's future, and was purchasing life insurance. he called an insurance broker and when the conversation concluded the broker asked him for his email address. The man replied. "I don't have an email address." The broker said, "You don't have email, and yet you have built a small empire. Imagine what you could have become if you had emai!" The man thought for a moment and said, 'I would have been an office boy. Sometimes missing an opportunity is the best thing that can happen to us. Our Life Without Cell Phones

Anyone borne in 1990 and back grew up using a land line phone. The world was perfect, no dramas, no rushes, everyone took its time to return calls.

I am one of those, I remember in the 80's my mom was housekeeping our house and taking phone messages for my brother and myself. There was a time that I was concern because she was giving messages from two or three day prior, so I have no other choice than calling the person and apologizing for doing it so late, then I tend  to explain the reason for the delay.

On one of my trip to the USA, I decided to buy a voice mail recorded that use a small tape, in that way everyday at lunch and evening time I used to check if there were recorded messages. Since my city was small and people weren't used to technology, and nobody were home when they ring our number, they tend to talk to the recorder thinking one of us were on the other line.

That happened many times, until we started disclosing all callers that we have a voice recorder machine, in that way they got use to wait until the little ring showed up before leaving the message.

My life and most peoples was simple in that way. Then in 1991 I started using a pager, that way you knew someone called you and you rushed either to use the office phone or if in the street we were using the public phones with coins, the problem coins were not in our pockets all the time, so we have to way until we reach the office or home to return the calls.

In 1993 here in Los Angeles, I got my first cell phoned when they became public (based on price, since before they were quite expensive and bulky as well)

Here comes the question: How our lives will change if overnight the cell phone service disappeared and we were only able to keep emails, laptops, tablets and landlines phones?

What will be the Emotional, Psychological, Social and Business consequences of that?

I can tell you that Generations X, Y and Millennial will go through hell, because they don't know other choice and for them to adapt to it will be very hard.

Businesses will be affected but not dramatically because of the email use as instant connections between businesses via the desktops, laptops and tablets.

I am looking for everybody opinion. Remember this is fiction, but will be very interesting to know what others opinion is on that matter.
